Sustainability Policy for Salthús Guesthouse

Salthús Guesthouse is situated in a beautiful natural setting, and we recognize our responsibility to protect the environment. Our goal is not only to provide our guests with high-quality service but also to be a role model in sustainability and environmental stewardship. By implementing these measures, we aim to reduce our environmental impact and promote sustainable tourism.

1. Composting with Bokashi: We have introduced a Bokashi composting system at the guesthouse to recycle organic waste and convert it into compost for gardening. This process helps reduce waste sent to landfills and promotes the use of natural resources. We encourage guests to use designated bins for organic waste and provide information about the Bokashi process.
2. Waste Sorting: We place great emphasis on sorting different types of waste and encourage our guests to participate. At the guesthouse, we provide separate bins for paper, plastic, glass, and organic waste. We also ensure that we recycle and make the most of what can be reused. In this way, we reduce overall waste and contribute to a circular economy.
3. Energy and use of Electric Car: We purchase green renewable energy from environmentally friendly energy providers. Additionally, we have introduced an electric car as transportation for the guesthouse and plan to set up a charging station to encourage our guests to use sustainable and eco-friendly transportation. The electric car reduces greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to reducing the environmental impact of trips within and outside the town. There are also charging stations in the town center, where guests can charge their vehicles.
   
   4. OSPAR Beach Litter Monitoring: Our guesthouse participates in the OSPAR Beach Litter Monitoring program, an international initiative aimed at tracking and studying litter on beaches. We encourage our guests to take part in this initiative by providing organized beach clean-up activities where they can gather litter from nearby beaches and ensure it is properly recycled. This helps us protect our local beaches and reduce marine pollution.
4. Use of Swan-Labeled Cleaning Products: All cleaning at the guesthouse is done with Swan-labeled cleaning products, which are environmentally friendly and have a lesser negative impact on the health of guests and staff. By using these products, we reduce the use of harmful chemicals and ensure that our environment is cleaned in a sustainable way.

We believe that through these actions and policies, the Salthús Guesthouse will not only enhance guest experiences but also contribute to the protection of nature and support sustainable tourism in the future. We focus on continuous education and goal-setting to improve sustainability each year, thereby contributing to improving the tourism industry with a greater emphasis on sustainability and environmental protection.
